Description

A creamy and caramelized French toast that’s easy to make and perfect for brunch, featuring a delicious burnt sugar finish.


Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of brioche or challah, sliced into 1-inch thick pieces
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Granulated sugar for caramelizing

Instructions

  1. Slice the bread and lay it snugly in a greased 9×13 dish.
  2. Whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Pour custard over bread, pressing slices to submerge. Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until set.
  5. Sprinkle a layer of sugar across the top and caramelize using a kitchen torch or under a broiler.
  6. Allow to cool slightly, then slice and serve with berries, powdered sugar, and syrup.
