Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
- Carefully stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting and enjoy!
Notes
Using hot water helps bloom the cocoa, enhancing the chocolate flavor. For deeper flavor, coffee can be substituted for water.
