Sausage Mummies: Terrific 10 Min Recipe

  • Author: Anna
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 10 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Sausage Mummies are a fun and spooky Halloween snack for kids. These adorable mummies are made by wrapping sausages in flaky puff pastry “bandages” and baking them until golden brown. They are a quick, easy, and kid-friendly treat perfect for Halloween parties or festive lunches.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet (about 250 g) ready-rolled puff pastry
  • 10 small sausages (or mini hot dogs)
  • 1 beaten egg (for egg wash)
  • Edible candy eyes or small dots of mayonnaise/mustard for decoration
  • Optional for Flavor: A sprinkle of sesame seeds or poppy seeds before baking
  • Optional for Flavor: A pinch of garlic powder or herbs for seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the puff pastry sheet on a flat surface. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to slice the pastry into thin strips about ½ inch (1 cm) wide.
  3. Take each sausage and wrap it with the pastry strips, leaving small gaps to mimic mummy bandages. Leave a little space near one end for the “face” where you’ll add the eyes later.
  4. Place the wrapped sausages on the lined baking tray. Brush each one lightly with beaten egg to give them a golden, glossy finish.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
  6. Allow the mummies to cool for a few minutes, then add eyes using small candy eyeballs, or pipe tiny dots of mayonnaise, cream cheese, or mustard for eyes.
  7. Serve warm or at room temperature with your favorite dips.

Notes

  • Keep pastry cold before baking for best puff and crispness.
  • Do not wrap too tightly, as the pastry expands while baking.
  • Leave small gaps between the “bandages” for a more authentic look.
  • Use an egg wash for shine and color.
  • Add eyes after baking to prevent them from melting or burning.
  • If using pre-cooked sausages, baking time can be slightly shorter (around 15 minutes).
