Quick and easy five-ingredient cocoa brownies with a deep chocolate flavor and a crackly top.

- 170 g (3/4 cup) unsalted butter
- 300 g (1 1/2 cups) granulated sugar
- 65 g (3/4 cup) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 large eggs (about 100 g total)
- 120 g (1 cup) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp fine salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) and line an 8×8 in pan with parchment.
- Combine butter and sugar in a heatproof bowl and warm until melted, about 1–2 minutes.
- Whisk cocoa powder and vanilla extract into the butter-sugar mixture until smooth.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing until just incorporated.
- Fold in flour and salt until no dry streaks remain.
- Spread batter into pan and bake for 18–22 minutes until edges are set.
- Cool completely before lifting out and slicing into 12 squares.
Notes
Overbaking can result in dry brownies. Use a kitchen scale for accurate measurements.
