Ingredients
Scale
- 6–8 cups stale bread, cubed
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Optional: 1 cup raisins or nuts for garnish
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
- Cut stale bread into 1-inch cubes and distribute them evenly in the baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs until frothy, then add the milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt. Mix until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture over the cubed bread and press down gently. If desired, sprinkle optional raisins or nuts over the soaked bread.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
- Allow to cool for 15-20 minutes before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
For a richer pudding, allow the bread to soak in the custard for 20-30 minutes before baking. If using fresh bread, dry it in a low oven for 10-15 minutes to improve texture.
